A new school year should start with a full plate and a full backpack. At Paul Duke STEM High School, our volunteers cooked and served more than 400 meal boxes to local families getting ready for the first day.
The start of a school year costs money that many families simply do not have. New clothes, notebooks, a haircut before the first day β it adds up fast.
On Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 11:00 AM, the "Helping Families Get Back to School" community event at Paul Duke STEM High School in Norcross set out to take some of that weight off. Struggling families and local school-going children in need were offered donated clothes, books and school supplies, along with services such as free or subsidized haircuts, all in preparation for the start of school.
Sprinkling Smiles volunteers came together to make sure nobody went home hungry. They cooked fresh food, served meals directly to families, and donated financial support to the event. Attendees and contributors were encouraged to spread joy, lift spirits, and make sure local students began their school year with adequate food and essential resources.
We were not alone. Purbasha, another local nonprofit association, joined hands with Sprinkling Smiles for the day β its volunteers brought home-cooked fresh food and helped serve meals to families alongside ours.
By the end of the event, over 400 meal boxes had been served. Thank you to every volunteer, every home kitchen, and to our friends at Purbasha. Here is to a great school year.
